The Seven Stones Inn is an amazing pub on St Martin’s in the Isles of Scilly. Full of atmosphere and charm it is an essential stopping-off point for anyone visiting the Islands. Super-friendly owners Emily and Dom now have two of my paintings on display in pride of place in the bar.

I have been visiting the Islands for many years with my family and have always found St Martin’s an unspoiled haven in which to to unwind. We love the beaches, seascapes and wonderful views all over the island. The most famous landmark is of course the enigmatic and unmissable “Daymark.” This 42 foot high red and white beacon mounted high on the cliffs has been warning ships for hundreds of years. The foreboding structure alongside the ruins of a Napoleonic signal station was an irresistible subject for my atmospheric, evening-glow painting.

The second most notable landmark is the Seven Stones’ infamous red Landrover. The owners are in the process of renovating their gorgeous Series III pick-up which will no doubt soon be a regular sight on the 2-mile long single-track road that runs the length of the island. The beautiful vehicle languishing elegantly in the sun-drenched field in front of the pub made such an eye-catching image I could not resist capturing this in my painting.

Huge thanks to Emily and Dom for putting these up in the pub. The rustic dark-wood frames settle the paintings into the relaxed ambience of the Seven Stones Inn which is full of many charming and historic artifacts. I am so proud to see them on display and hope they will bring smiles to visitors for many years to come.
